Crydom (Solid State Relays) Solutions for the Medical Industry

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Crydom Solid State Relays (SSRs) are utilized in numerous medical applications. Crydom SSRs are used to control motors in hospital beds, examination tables, and rehabilitation equipment. SSR’s are also widely used for heating controls in sterilization equipment, blood warming units, and incubators.

Since Crydom SSRs utilize silicon for switching loads and therefore have no contacts that arc, contact contamination and the danger of sparking are eliminated. Coupled with an epoxy-filled encapsulation, the Crydom SSR is resistant to steam and other sterilization techniques.

The recent introduction of the Crydom MC series of SSR/controllers is an all in one solution that includes both a controller and a Crydom SSR in one package to control temperature, phase control, or soft start, soft stop functions.

Crydom Becomes The First Solid State Relay Manufacturer To Get UL Certification For 100kA Short Circuit Current Ratings

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

October 25, 2007 - Crydom, an operation of Custom Sensors & Technologies (CST), announces the first solid state relays available on the market with UL approved short-circuit current ratings (SCCR). These relays facilitate industrial control panel builders’ efforts to comply with the new article 409 from NEC and the latest version of UL508A, both request SCCR marking, by providing them with pre-approved ratings for SSR/fuse combination.

CWD.jpg

According to Dr. Oscar Montero, from the Crydom Global Technical Center, “Standard 5kA SCCR on power devices prevents panel builders from offering panels with higher ratings. Panels with a higher SCCR could be connected to electrical systems with different available currents bringing market advantages for panel builders. However, establishing a higher SCCR may represent significant challenges and additional costs for panel builders.”

Crydom’s approved ratings allow panel builders to establish the SCCR for the branch circuit where the relay is located without performing additional testing. The ratings can be added directly to the manufacturer’s procedure. Hence, effectively reducing the time-to-market cycle for the panel and cost associated to compliance.

Crydom has obtained UL approval for SCCR by testing the combination SSR/Fuse under the “umbrella fuse” requirement allowing more flexibility to Crydom customers to mix and match SSR and fuses of different ratings.

Crydom PCB Mount Solid-State Relays

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Big Power in a Small Package!  Crydom PCB Mount Solid-State Relays Reduce Panel Space Requirements While Maintaining Power Capabilities

Crydom, an operation of Custom Sensors & Technologies (CST) and North American Leader in solid state relays, announces the most extensive line of standard and custom PCB mount power solid state relays available to the European and Asian markets. These relays offer ratings from 1 amp to 25 amps (forced air) at line voltages up to 660Vac., which makes them ideal for literally hundreds of commercial and industrial switching applications. Their compact design is also well suited for high-density PCB applications. Moreover, these relays contain no moving parts, which provides for silent operation and life expectancies at full-load current in excess of 50 times most electromechanical relays.

These compact solid state relays are ideal for use in numerous commercial & industrial applications, including: electromechanical relay replacement, pump control systems, gaming equipment, vending machines, security systems, medical equipment, solenoid control, packaging equipment, printing machines, and much more.

Versions are available with either a zero-crossing (resistive loads) or random turn-on (inductive / phase control loads) output. UL Recognition, CSA Certification, VDE Approval, and CE Compliance available on most models.

• Ratings up to 25A (forced air) @ 660V AC
• SCR output for heavy industrial or commercial loads (most versions)
• Available in standard in-line, mini in-line, or dual in-line packages
• Life expectancy in excess of 50x typical electro- mechanical relays at full-load current
• No moving parts eliminates all acoustical noise
• Not sensitive to magnetic fields
• Custom models available upon request
• RoHS Compliant

Crydom (Solid State Relays) Solutions for Lighting Industry

Tuesday, August 28th, 2007

Crydom Solid State Relays (SSRs) are utilized in the lighting industry in a wide range of applications. Beside the obvious on-off supply control, or for the remote power switching points for centralized automated control, Crydom SSRs find widespread use in high power dimming systems for theatrical, industrial and residential applications, as well as airport lighting controls, parking lot lighting, safety lights and energy saving systems for commercial and industrial lighting.

Crydom (Solid State Relays) Solutions for Heating Industry

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

Crydom Solid State Relays (SSRs) are widely used in the heating industry. By specifying the Random Turn-on versions, Crydom SSR’s can be used as proportional controllers for varying power to resistance type heaters. Applied in a more basic way, when used in conjunction with “on-off” style temperature controllers, Crydom SSRs can be used as a power cycling switch without concern for contact arcing, burning, or the resultant reduction of life expectancy.

Crydom SSR Ranges.jpg

With the wide range of SSR types available, Crydom relays can be selected and used to control Quartz lamp, ceramic, infrared, CalRod, cartridge, immersion, strip, and band type heaters among many others. In addition, SSR’s can control fuel valves, blower motors, damper motors, and serve as the interface between thermostats and their primary equipment.

The Crydom MCTC Series of micro-controlled SSR/temperature controllers can be used as a stand alone temperature controller where a compact, low cost solution is required. The MCTC eliminates the need for a separate controller and SSR assemblies, by combining both into one standard size SSR package.

Crydom (Solid State Relays) Solutions for Food Equipment

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

Crydom Solid State Relays (SSRs) are widely used in the food equipment industry as replacement to mercury contactors and electromechanical relays because of their ability to work in harsh environments. Since there are no moving parts contact wear is eliminated and their semiconductor based design makes them environmentally safe to be used in most applications including; ovens, fryers, heaters broilers, food warmers and holding equipment, and coffee makers.

Their epoxy sealed design even allows use in moisture prone applications such as produce misting systems found in grocery stores. Using Random Turn-on type Crydom SSR’s provides the ability to vary the available power to resistance type heaters by using burst control and with the availability of the new Crydom MC series of Temperature Proportional and Burst control products, the solutions are even easier than before.

Crydom Launches New Temperature Control Solid State Relay.

Thursday, January 5th, 2006

Crydom the leading manufacturer of Solid State Relays (SSR’s) has launched a completely new range of microcontroller based devices. The MCTC is a self contained temperature controller in a single industry standard panel mount package.

The series combines all the necessary functions to accurately regulate temperature. With a simple set up procedure, they provide accurate control for designers for heater and cooling loads of up to 90A AC.

The MCTC requires a non-regulated low drive current DC source (10-32Vdc, 32mA max). The devices have an internally compensated thermocouple input, set to accept J or K types. Five available temperature ranges offering heating control over 37°C to 590°C and an inverse function for refrigeration down to –73°C. Setpoint adjustment is achieved by either low voltage dc or 4-20mA inputs. There is also separate enable/disable input to switch the load.

MCTC PR shot.jpg

Integrated zerocross burst firing and proportional derivative control avoids setpoint overshoot. Operators can easily see the controller’s status with separate LED indication for setpoint condition and output status. Load voltage switching can be either 280Vac or 480Vac suitable for both single and three phase systems. Connections are simple screw connections both control and load side. The industry standard package makes it suitable for Crydom’s range of heatsinks.
