Honeywell Introduces It's SMART POSITION SENSOR, The Most Accurate and Durable Linear Position Device Available In The Industry Today

June 22, 2010

Logo.jpg

75mm Linear Position Sensor Offers Unparalleled Performance,Environmental Robustness, and Ease of Installation

Honeywell introduces the SMART Position Sensor, 75 mm Linear Configuration, the most accurate linear position sensor available in the industry (0,05 mm [0.002 in]), enabling highly accurate motion control, and improving operation efficiency and safety. Its simple, non-contact design eliminates mechanical failure mechanisms, reducing wear and tear, improving reliability and durability, and minimizing downtime.

“SMART” stands for Superior Measurement, Accuracy, Reliability, and Thinking. The SMART Position Sensor can essentially think for itself. It uses a patented combination of an ASIC and an array of magnetoresistive (MR) sensors to determine the position of a magnet attached to a moving object.

“The SMART Position Sensor is a revolutionary way of detecting linear position,” said Allen Han, Vice President, General Manager of Sensing and Control’s Electronic Sensing group. “The debut of this sensor provides our customers with the highest level of accuracy, durability, and performance as compared to other equivalent products available today.”

Sealed packaging allows robustness in most harsh environments such as shock, vibration, extreme temperatures, salt water, and dusty or rough terrain. Installation is simplified to four simple steps versus up to 14 steps for some competitive products, reducing set-up costs.

The SMART Position Sensor replaces multiple sensor and switch components that competitive products often require, eliminating extra wiring, connections, and external components, therefore reducing design, installation, and supply chain complexity. Its builtin redundancy and self-diagnostics provide additional safety benefits and reduce equipment downtime.

For design engineers, the SMART Position Sensor provides design and interface flexibility because of its air gap of up to 3,0 ± 2,5mm [0.118 ± 0.098 in] between the sensor and the magnet, and a variety of output options (analog standard; CAN bus and RS232 interface available). The device also has electronics on-board, making it easily adaptable to most commercial platforms, eliminating the need for additional external electronics. Because it offers stable, temperature compensated output, designers do not need to expend engineering resources to build their own output algorithms, reducing total cost of ownership.

The SMART Position Sensor, 75 mm Linear Configuration, may potentially be used in:

*  Industrial applications such as machinery (e.g., cutting and slitting, material  handling, packaging, plastic molding, wafer handling, woodworking), elevators, and industrial flow control (e.g., valve positioning for food and beverage plants)
*  Aerospace and defense applications such as aircraft ram door control and military vehicle suspension arm positioning
*  Medical applications such as imaging, hospital hardware, and syringe pumps
*  Transportation applications such as agricultural combine motion control and crane
   arm positioning.

June 22, 2010

Schurter Logo1.jpg

By achieving the seal-tight protection class of IP69K, SCHURTER is extending the spectrum of potential applications for its already tried-and-tested PSE family of piezo switches. The qualification test was carried out using a high-pressure vapor stream at 90 Bar and a temperature of 80°C.

The hermetically sealed piezo switches can now be used in areas, which are regularly disinfected or cleaned using high-pressure cleaners. This renders them ideal for use in applications exposed to high levels of dirt and grime such as food processing, commercial cooking and transportation.

Besides the extraordinarily long lifetime of more than 20 million switching cycles, SCHURTER piezo switches also reveal a high level of robustness due to their stainless steel or aluminum housing.

The following mounting diameters are available as standard: 16, 19, 22, 24, 27 and 30 mm. Other mounting diameters, materials, colors and shapes are possible, according to individual design requirements.

Point or ring illumination is offered in mounting sizes 22 mm and up. This feature can be used to illuminate the actuating surface in a continuous mode or to display the switch position on or off.

Laser lettering is available and done in house to minimize lead times. A broad range of standard legends and symbols are available. Customer-specific inscriptions are also available.

VarioSIGN, Werma's Innovative LED Signal Tower Design with Unique Functions and Benefits

June 18, 2010

Werma Logo.jpg

A Complete new LED signal tower design combines a wide range of functions with cost effectiveness

Modular Concept Through Electronics
The main feature of the new VarioSIGN is the multi-function electronic modularity of the light elements replacing the traditional mechanical modular concept of signal towers.

Depending on the product type, the light elements can be illuminated tier by tier, completely and in different colour selections. The light elements give clear, 360 degree visibility.

Beautifully Understated  Innovative and Unobtrusive Design
Thanks to the modern design and innovative plastic housing the new VarioSIGN looks good in applications where the style and design of the machine being guarded is also important.

If no light signal is active, the colourless translucent housing lets the LED signal tower blend effortlessly into the background.  Only once light elements are activated does the unit become filled with colour, grabbing the attention that the unit has been designed to achieve.

Different Mounting Positions
The illuminated body of VarioSIGN can be positioned to point upwards, downwards or sideways, guaranteeing optimum visibility.

Variable Lighting Configurations
The colours and lighting configuration of VarioSIGN, depending upon type, can be set individually by DIP switch and changed at any time.
One variant uses RGB-LEDs offering maximum flexibility.  This version can be set to offer a permanent light as well as flash and EVS.  Furthermore the entire signal tower or the individual tiers can be illuminated in seven different colours (red, yellow, green, blue, clear, violet and turquoise).

ABB SR2 Enclosures

June 2, 2010

ABB2.jpg

The range of SR2 enclosures is a complete offer of monobloc enclosures for constructing small and medium-sized electric automation, switching and control switchboards. The SR2 enclosures come from the experience ABB has gained over the years in building IP65 metalstructures (in accordance with the CEI EN 60529 Standard), together with the innovative new production process used for construction and patented by ABB.

The typical use of SR2 Enclosures is to make switchgear and controlgear switchboards for a very wide variety of industrial machines: from large machinery with automated production lines or parts of these, down to the typical installations of on-board machine switchboards, boilers, heating plants and so on.

SR2 enclosures conform to the EN 62208 Standard “Empty enclosures for low voltage protection switchgear and controlgear assemblies” and allow realization of electrical equipment conforming to the prescriptions of the CEI EN 60204-1 Standard “Safety of machinery. Electrical equipment of machines” and of the EN 60439-1 Standard and the new EN61439-1-2 Standard “Low voltage protection switchgear and controlgear for assemblies”. The degree of protection, in accordance with the CEI EN 60529 Standard “Degrees of protection of enclosures (IP Code)”, is IP65. The SR2 enclosures have also passed the control required to obtain the UL (Underwriters Laboratories) and CSA (Canadian Standards Association) Type 12 marks.

The SR2 enclosures also allow secondary distribution switchboards to be made, thanks to the possibility, in the 400, 600 and 800 mm widths, of installing the whole range of apparatus and modular circuit-breakers on DIN rails combined with special pre-drilled and hinged modular front panels, thereby allowing construction of AS/ANS type electrical switchgear conforming to the CEI EN 60439-1 Standard and the new EN 61439-1-2 Standard. A single line of metalwork structures therefore allows construction of automation and secondary and end distribution electrical switchboards thanks to the availability of a series of accessories (modular panels, DIN rails) and to the possibility of stacking the enclosures.

The SR2 enclosures have been designed to fulfil all the typical needs of the builder or installer of switchgear
in the best way possible and the user is presented with a unique ensemble of functional characteristics:

*  Wide dimensional range
*  Certified IP65 degree of protection
*  Internal galvanised sheet mounting plate with 20/10 thickness (made  to allow threaded holes to be made easily), adjustable in depth by using a special accessory.
*  Fairlead plate screwed on (at top and bottom) made of 15/10 thick galvanised sheet, with a sealing gasket applied inside.
*  Complete reversibility of the enclosure, so the door can open either on the right or on the left-hand side.
*  Possibility of installing all the apparatus and modular circuit-breakers on a DIN rail combined with a hinged modular panel.
