Honeywell Extends Its TruStability® Pressure Sensor Product Line with a Single Side Liquid Media Option

November 2, 2011

Logo.jpg

Allows One Sensor Port to Be Used with Condensing Humidity or Directly with Non-corrosive Liquid Media

Honeywell introduced a single side liquid media option to its extensive line of TruStability® Pressure Sensors originally introduced in July 2009. The new single side liquid media option allows customers to use one port of the sensor with condensing humidity or non-corrosive liquid media, such as de-ionized water, eliminating the complexity and expense of having to protect the sensor from this type of media. Honeywell has developed this option because of the many applications where condensing humidity conditions exist or where liquid media is the desired media to be measured. Until now, Honeywell’s TruStability® Pressure Sensors have been intended for use with non-corrosive, non-ionic working fluids such as air and dry gases.

The TruStability® Pressure Sensor product line is comprised of the HSC (High Accuracy Silicon Ceramic) Series and the SSC (Standard Accuracy Silicon Ceramic) Series that offer customers three key benefits not found in other pressure sensors currently available:

* Industry-leading stability helps prevent drift over time or from temperature and humidity extremes; often eliminates the customer’s need to calibrate after mounting to the printed circuit board (PCB), and also the need for the end-user to calibrate the device;

* Temperature compensated and calibrated, providing an extremely tight accuracy specification;

* Modular and flexible design offers a wide variety of package styles and options, all with the same industry-leading performance specifications.

.

The HSC Series is designed to provide an industry-leading ±1% total error band specification, compensated across a 0 °C to 50 °C [32 °F to 122 °F] temperature range. The SSC Series is designed to provide a ±2% total error band specification, compensated across a wider -20 °C to 85 °C [-4 °F to 185 °F] temperature range.

The HSC and SSC Series’ footprint is very small in comparison to most silicon pressure sensors, including the current Honeywell portfolio. Despite their small size, they are temperature compensated, calibrated, and provide an amplified signal, typically allowing the customer to remove the components associated with signal conditioning from the PCB to increase space and reduce costs often associated with those components (e.g., acquisition, inventory, assembly). This integrated capability often eliminates problems that could occur from having multiple signal conditioning components across the PCB.

Both series offer the option of analog or digital outputs. Digital ASIC output in either I2C or SPI protocols from digital sensors accelerates performance through reduced conversion requirements and the convenience of direct interface to microprocessors or microcontrollers. Custom calibration ranges, output options, power options (3.3 Vdc or 5.0 Vdc), pressure types (absolute, differential, gage, compound), pressure ranges (1 psi to 150 psi), a wide array of mounting options (lead through SIP, DIP, and surface mount technology), and multiple package options provide support for many unique applications. They are designed to provide digital correction of sensor offset, sensitivity, temperature coefficients, and non-linearity.

Potential medical applications include airflow monitors, gas flow instrumentation, hospital diagnostics (gas chromatography, blood analysis machines), kidney dialysis machines, oxygen concentrators, pneumatic controls, respiratory devices/machines (ventilators, anesthesia machines, patient monitoring), and sleep apnea equipment. Potential industrial applications include barometry, flow calibrators, gas chromatography, gas flow instrumentation, HVAC, life sciences and pneumatic controls.

Customizable Devices Provide High Sensitivity at Very Low Flows, Low Pressure Drop,
High Stability, and Help Reduce Production Costs

Honeywell announced the introduction of the Honeywell Zephyr™ Digital Airflow Sensors that deliver the industry’s most accurate airflow reading across the operating range of the sensor. The new HAF Series devices provide highly accurate digital output, enhanced reliability, and repeatable measurements to meet many medical and industrial application specifications.

The Honeywell Zephyr™ Digital Airflow Sensors offer several competitive advantages not found in other digital airflow sensors, including:

* High 2.5% accuracy that allows for very precise airflow measurement, often ideal for demanding applications with high accuracy requirements;

* Customization, which allows the sensor to be designed to meet specific end-user  needs;

* High sensitivity at very low flows to enable the detection of the presence or absence of airflow in the application;

* High stability to reduce errors due to thermal effects and null shift to provide accurate readings over time, often eliminating the need for system calibration after printed circuit board (PCB) mount, and periodically over time;

* Low pressure drop, which typically improves patient comfort in medical applications, and reduces noise and system wear in components such as motors and pumps;

* Linear output to provide a more intuitive sensor signal than the raw output of basic airflow sensors which can help customers reduce production costs and implementation time.

The Honeywell Zephyr™ Digital Airflow Sensors simplify the customer’s production requirements due to Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC)-based I2C digital output that eases integration to micro-processors or microcontrollers, reducing PCB complexity and component count. Their small size occupies less space on the PCB, allowing for a smaller PCB, which can reduce production costs and simplify installation in space-restricted applications. Their low 3.3 Vdc voltage option and low power supply requirements allow for use in battery-powered and portable applications.

Honeywell Zephyr™ Digital Airflow Sensors are designed to measure mass flow of air and other non-corrosive gases. They are available in standard flow ranges, and are fully calibrated and temperature compensated. They provide a digital interface for reading airflow over the specified full scale flow span and temperature range, and their thermally isolated heater and temperature sensing elements help provide a fast response to air or gas flow.

Potential medical applications include anesthesia delivery machines, hospital diagnostics (spectrometry, gas chromatography), nebulizers, oxygen concentrators, patient monitoring systems (respiratory monitoring), sleep apnea machines, spirometers, ventilators, and ventricular assist devices. Potential industrial applications include air-to-fuel ratio, analytical instrumentation (spectrometry, chromatography), fuel cells, gas leak detection, gas meters, HVAC filters, meteorology equipment, and variable air volume (VAV) systems on HVAC systems.

Honeywell's XYR6000 Wireless Position Sensor Enables Monitoring in Hazardous Area and Remote Locations

January 28, 2011

Logo.jpg

Wireless Technology Eliminates the Need for Communications Cabling or Power Line Installation, Saving Time and Money

Honeywell’s XYR6000 Wireless Position Sensor is based on one of the company’s most-proven sensor technologies. The XYR6000 position sensor helps improve overall reliability by giving users the ability to remotely monitor a number of applications ranging from valve position to safety shower emergency use.

Originally introduced by Honeywell Process Solutions (HPS) in June 2009, the XYR6000’s broad spectrum of potential is now being offered by Honeywell Sensing and Control to targeted OEM customers.

Based on the MICRO SWITCH™ CX hazardous area switch, the XYR6000 Wireless Position Sensor monitors position when used in conjunction with OneWireless™ systems, sending the signal from remote or potentially hazardous areas. Featuring full UL, ATEX, and IEC Ex approvals, the XYR6000 Series has calibration within 270 degrees rotation to apply in most linear and/or rotary position sensing applications. Its analog output provides true position span output in both percentages and degrees.

In addition to eliminating manual monitoring, the sensor’s accuracy improves safety by identifying linear or rotary valve positions, minimizing the risk of unwanted fluid release or unplanned product contamination. When used for safety shower notification, the sensor can serve as an emergency response trigger. The XYR6000 Wireless Position Sensor also simplifies maintenance by electronically tagging each valve in the system by identifying valves that have degraded or been damaged. This reduces the need for field technicians to manually inspect valves for maintenance.

Since the sensor carries all the appropriate hazardous location certifications, it is often ideal for applications such as monitoring valve position status, manual process valve position, safety shower and eye bath notification, tank overflow alarms, damper and louver position, gate/door position, and other applications where installing wires is inefficient, cost prohibitive, or simply unsafe.

Honeywell Introduces It's SMART POSITION SENSOR, The Most Accurate and Durable Linear Position Device Available In The Industry Today

June 22, 2010

Logo.jpg

75mm Linear Position Sensor Offers Unparalleled Performance,Environmental Robustness, and Ease of Installation

Honeywell introduces the SMART Position Sensor, 75 mm Linear Configuration, the most accurate linear position sensor available in the industry (0,05 mm [0.002 in]), enabling highly accurate motion control, and improving operation efficiency and safety. Its simple, non-contact design eliminates mechanical failure mechanisms, reducing wear and tear, improving reliability and durability, and minimizing downtime.

“SMART” stands for Superior Measurement, Accuracy, Reliability, and Thinking. The SMART Position Sensor can essentially think for itself. It uses a patented combination of an ASIC and an array of magnetoresistive (MR) sensors to determine the position of a magnet attached to a moving object.

“The SMART Position Sensor is a revolutionary way of detecting linear position,” said Allen Han, Vice President, General Manager of Sensing and Control’s Electronic Sensing group. “The debut of this sensor provides our customers with the highest level of accuracy, durability, and performance as compared to other equivalent products available today.”

Sealed packaging allows robustness in most harsh environments such as shock, vibration, extreme temperatures, salt water, and dusty or rough terrain. Installation is simplified to four simple steps versus up to 14 steps for some competitive products,reducing set-up costs.

The SMART Position Sensor replaces multiple sensor and switch components that competitive products often require, eliminating extra wiring, connections, and external components, therefore reducing design, installation, and supply chain complexity. Its builtin redundancy and self-diagnostics provide additional safety benefits and reduce equipment downtime.

For design engineers, the SMART Position Sensor provides design and interface flexibility because of its air gap of up to 3,0 ± 2,5mm [0.118 ± 0.098 in] between the sensor and the magnet, and a variety of output options (analog standard; CAN bus and RS232 interface available). The device also has electronics on-board, making it easily adaptable to most commercial platforms, eliminating the need for additional external electronics. Because it offers stable, temperature compensated output, designers do not need to expend engineering resources to build their own output algorithms, reducing total cost of ownership.

The SMART Position Sensor, 75 mm Linear Configuration, may potentially be used in:

*  Industrial applications such as machinery (e.g., cutting and slitting, material  handling, packaging, plastic molding, wafer handling, woodworking), elevators, and industrial flow control (e.g., valve positioning for food and beverage plants)
*  Aerospace and defense applications such as aircraft ram door control and military vehicle suspension arm positioning
*  Medical applications such as imaging, hospital hardware, and syringe pumps
*  Transportation applications such as agricultural combine motion control and crane
   arm positioning.
