Schurter Thermal Fuse RTS Now Also Available With Shunt

Schurter's RTS thermal fuse, successfully launched in 2018, gets a new variant with an integrated shunt. The RTS is a particularly compact overtemperature protection device for power semiconductors in SMD technology for highest demands.

RTS stands for Reflowable Thermal Switch. It was developed to protect highly integrated power semiconductors from overheating. Prior to mechanical activation, the new thermal fuse can be soldered on conventional reflow soldering machines with profiles up to 260 °C.

Minimal Footprint
The new overtemperature protection device comes in the same minimal dimensions and maximum breaking capacity despite its additional shunt functionality. On its small 6.6 x 8.8 mm footprint the RTS can handle operating currents of up to 130 A and rated voltages of up to 60 VDC.

Integrated Current Measuring Sensor (Shunt)
The shunt version has an integrated resistance with particularly low temperature dependence. This resistance, known as a shunt, enables precise current measurement and enables an additional – non-thermal – circuit protection, e.g. via a controller.

Protection Against Thermal Runaway
Thermal runaway refers to the overheating of a power semiconductor due to a self-reinforcing, heat-producing process. One of the reason is the trend towards increasing power density and miniaturization of electronic circuits. The RTS protects these power semiconductors against thermal runaway. In such an event, the thermal fuse reliably interrupts the circuit at a precisely defined temperature as a fail-safe device.

Schurter GP21 / GS21: 400 VDC Connector System According to IEC TS 62735-1

With the GP21 plug connector and the GS21 socket-outlet, SCHURTER launches the world's first UL approved IEC TS 62735-1 standardized DC connector system designed to enable efficient DC power distribution in data centre power distribution strips and UPS.

 

With a complete DC power supply architecture, from source to load, the cost-intensive and failure-prone transformations and conversions, including their components, are completely eliminated. Operational reliability increases with improved efficiency.

In the digital age, vast quantities of DC-powered devices are in use: consumer electronics, industrial IT, communications technology, and electric vehicles to name a few. New technologies are beginning to emerge to enable direct current at the source of supply, which in turn is driving the establishment of standards.

 

Direct current improves the quality of the power being supplied. Problems with harmonics and harmonic distortions are eliminated. Phase compensation is also not necessary. Furthermore, coupling synchronization to different sources and networks is no longer necessary.

IEC TS 62735-1
The new standard for DC power distribution up to 2.6 kW requires a more complex design. The Connector system must be designed considering the potential for arcing associated with disconnecting the DC power supply. The permissible temperature range of the connector pins is -5 °C to +105 °C. An additional interlock for arc protection, while hot plugging, is not required for the version up to 2.6 kW.

Plug GP21 / Socket-Outlet GS21
The re-connectable SCHURTER GP21 plug accommodates a cable cross-section of between 0.75mm²/18 AWG and 1.5 mm²/16 AWG. The corresponding socket-outlet GS21 is designed for front panel thicknesses of 1.5 mm or 2.0 mm. Quick Connect 6.3 x 0.8 mm or PCB terminals are available for the connection.

Outlook
The reduction of steps to convert power resulting in less power loss, clearly speaks to the need for the use of DC power supply in data centres.

IEC TS 62735-2 is in process for the standardization of a higher DC power requirement of up to 5.2 kW. The appropriate interconnect with the necessary safety interlock (cold switch) are currently being developed.

To increase operational safety, SCHURTER will also be equipping its 2.6 kW plug with a cord retaining system. Appliance-side DC components, such as inlets and cord connectors, are being standardized in IEC TS 63236. This standard is currently in the draft phase and is expected to be published by the IEC in 2021.

Schurter Type 5120, 5123 IEC Appliance Filter now with V-Lock Cord Retention

The IEC appliance filter series 5120 and 5123 are now as standard equipped with the V-Lock cord retention feature. With the V-Lock system, the power connector is equipped with a latch that interlocks with a special notch in the inlet and thus reliably prevents the cord from being pulled out.

Schurter Series 4751 Ganged IEC Appliance Outlet Type F

With the series 4751 SCHURTER is introducing a new ganged IEC block style outlet, which provides an efficient solution for power distribution units and uninterruptible power supply units.

For the safe operation of systems in data centers, telecommunication or PA-systems, standardized, high grade and automated mounting processes are a necessity.

The blocks include 2, 4 or 6 IEC outlets type F, and are prewired and terminated with Quick Connectors 6.3 x 0.8 mm. An asymmetric panel cur-out allows for an efficient mounting process, ensuring proper outlet assembly. The series is certified by VDE and CCC for 10 A at 250 VAC and by UL for 15 A at 250 VAC.

 

For better optical distinction, especially useful in a multi-phase system, the individual blocks can be produced in black, grey and white.

To prevent an inadvertent disconnection of power, the new blocks are compatible with the V-Lock cord retaining system. The snap-in mounting is standard for a 1.5 mm panel thickness.

BC320: Blind Cover for Outlets of Type F / Type J
In order to prevent overload of modern power distribution strips with multiple IEC outlets, individual outlets can be protected by means of tamper resistant blind covers. These protective caps are mounted onto the outlets in the power distribution strip just like a plug. For safety reasons, the optionally available protective caps cannot be removed without the special tool/key.

Hylec-APL - Steatite High Temperature Terminal Blocks Range

Hot Applications need High Temp Ceramic up to 1,000 degC STEATITE Terminal Blocks

A range of terminal blocks that can withstand extreme temperatures is available at Hylec-APL, the specialist supplier of electrical components and enclosures. Steatite High Temperature Terminal Blocks are dimensionally stable up to 1,000 degC. They suit applications such as boilers, water heaters, cookers, injection moulding machines, and other uses where connections are required around heating/heating and hot water equipment.

The Steatite High Temperature Terminal Blocks range offers robust ceramic construction with nick-plated brass inserts and zinc-plated steel screws. The range is available in two variants, with and without steel inserts. The standard range offers ten different models: two single pole versions to suit 4mm² and 10mm² standard conductor sizes with maximum current of 32A and 41A ; three 2-pole models, with the larger device suitable for up to 57A maximum current; three 3-pole models (32A, 41A and 57A maximum current) and two 4-pole versions (32A and 41A). They are off-white in colour.

Steatite Ceramic Terminal Blocks with steel inserts offer additional strength and stability. Four models are available: a two pole and a three pole to suit 32A (max) current applications and a two pole and a three pole for applications up to 41A. Sizes are range between 15.6mm high x 18mm wide x 21mm long up to 23mm high x 29.5mm wide x 52mm long.

The Steatite High Temperature Block family is RoHS compliant, VDE and CE approved.

Schurter TA35 Newly Rated Thermal Circuit Breaker 1, 2 or 3-Pole

With the TA35 series, Schurter offers a particularly versatile generation of miniature circuit breakers with a newly attained UL rating of 277 VAC, the North America rating for 1 of 3 phase used in lighting applications and other mains connected 1-phase devices. They are available in 1-, 2- or 3-pole versions and are especially impressive with their compact and attractive design.

The TA35 offers both the function of a ON/OFF switch and thermal overcurrent protection. Finely graduated rated currents are available from 0.05 A to 20 A for 1-pole and 2-pole circuit breakers, and 0.05 A to 12 A for 3-pole circuit breakers. An optional protective cover offers an IP 65 degree of protection, making the switch suitable for use in harsh environments exposed to dust and splashing water.

The rocker switch can be supplied with or without illumination in six colours with standard print legends, or customer-specific symbols. The circuit breakers are designed for efficient snap-in mounting in panel thicknesses from 1 to 4 mm. The terminals are quick-connect 6.3 x 0.8 mm.

Applications for the TA35, with its increased rating, are commercial lighting and power distribution. Other 1-phase mains connected applications include power generators, cleaning equipment, laboratory equipment for chemical and medicinal use, or machines for food service or processing.

Technical Data / Approvals
The rated AC voltage according to UL was increased to 277 VAC for all non-illuminated 1-pole and 2-pole versions. The voltage rating according to IEC remains at 240 VAC
