New 'foldback' DC power Supply from Finder Boosts Applications

June 26, 2013

Finder.jpg

Joining the well established 78 series of switch mode power supplies from Finder, the 78.50 now features ‘foldback’ overload protection. This has been introduced to address market demands by extending application coverage to include lead acid battery charging – not compatible with the ‘hiccup’ mode of protection featured on the rest of the range. As with the rest of the range, it shares a plethora of design features to improve both reliability and efficiency, giving control system builders a stable and dependable low voltage DC supply, up to 91% efficient, and drawing only 0.4W in standby.

This series of modular, rail mounted DC power supplies now comprises models covering outputs rated 24VDC/12W, 24VDC/36W, 24VDC/60W, 12VDC/12W and 12VDC/50W – all supporting a wide AC or DC supply range capability of respectively 100-265VAC and 140-370VDC.

Integrating the latest protection technologies, the 78 Series includes: supply overvoltage (varistor) protection, thermal protection with fast output voltage shutdown; short circuit and overload protection with ‘hiccup’ (auto-recovery) protection – except the 78.50 with ‘foldback’ overload protection. In addition, the high inrush current handling capability means the power supplies will safely tolerate loads with high current transient characteristics, such as capacitive circuits and solenoids fitted with ‘economy’ resistors.

To help minimise downtime in the event of a fault, the power supply inputs are protected by an easy access internal fuse, with an adjacent spare fuse ensuring an even more immediate fix.

Measuring only 17.5 or 70mm wide by 60mm deep, these highly compact 35mm rail mounted power supplies can also help to reduce control panel size.  Conforming to EN60950-1 and EN61204-3 norms, they are fully compliant with global EMC standards for power supply design.

Finder Adds 3 New Application-Specific Movement Detectors to its 18 Series Range

April 24, 2013

Finder.jpg
Based on new innovative electronics and optics Finder has added 3 new application-specific movement detectors to its 18 Series range.

Specifically for sensing within larger rectangular areas such as hotel lobbies and long corridors, the 18.41 surveys an area up to 15 metres either side of the device, giving an extensive total detecting zone of 30 metres long by 4 metres wide, from just a single unit.

Central to the 18.51 is an advanced lens and electronics system that achieves two detecting zones with different sensitivities. The central 4 x 4 metre zone responds to very small movements, able for example to pick-up on the presence of a person quietly working at his workplace. But additionally, within an extended 8 x 8 metre zone, it will also respond to normal movements. This product is particularly targeted at offices, schools, and the workplace in general.

“Twin-Mirror” technology gives the 18.61 its exceptionally wide viewing angle of 180°. Specifically designed for fitting into new or existing wall boxes, the 18.61 can be installed in corridors along with the 18.41 but is equally suited to small spaces such as bathrooms or passage areas. Essentially it can be installed as a direct replacement for a wall mounted light switch or push-button.

All three models share the common characteristics of a wide 110 ... 230 V AC power supply range, a 10A rated NO output contact, adjustable ambient light intervention threshold and a Light-Off delay adjustable from 12 to 35 minutes.

Depending on the type, these new products can be installed on the ceiling, in suspended ceilings or in recessed or flush mounting boxes.

Finder 70 Series Monitoring Relays Help Meet Safety Guidelines

September 24, 2012

Finder.jpg

With increasing health and safety demands and the need to protect valuable equipment, Finder’s new 70 Series modular rail-mounted monitoring relays provide a solution by offering maximum flexibility in monitoring a range of electrical supply parameters, in compact, easy to adjust units. For example, machine safety legislation (IEC/EN/BS60204-1) requires that portable or semi-portable motor-driven equipment be prevented from starting up in the wrong direction should the local phases be reversed, and a phase reversal monitoring relay can provide for that.

Finder’s new relays are ideal for monitoring supplies to machinery, equipment, and installations where failure or variation outside acceptable limits may result in damage to equipment, danger to personnel, or disruption to critical processes or procedures. Featuring ‘positive safety logic,’ the 70 Series will ensure that any failure mode results in the output relay assuming its de-energized position. With a selectable fault memory (lock-out), safety is increased by preventing uncontrolled restarting of equipment.

With a wide range of adjustments to maximize application flexibility, the monitoring relays feature two or three colour LED indicators for immediate visual indication of supply status. The functions and values are programmable from the front face, simplifying set-up and adjustment.

Within the 70 Series range are units designed to monitor single and 3-phase supplies for under-voltage, over-voltage, voltage within set limits, and for neutral loss, phase loss, phase rotation and asymmetry. The four monitoring relays in the 70 Series range (three of which are multifunctional) offer a selection of voltage limits between 170 – 270 for single phase, and 300– 480 for three-phase supplies, a switch off delay time between 0.5 – 60 seconds, and 4 – 25% variation of phase asymmetry. The modules are available in 17.mm or 35mm, dependent on type.
