Cherry Electrical Offers New DZ Range of V4 Sub Miniature Switch, Available with Positive Break Action

August 28, 2009

 2009 LOGO.jpg

Cherry Electrical Products’ new range of V4 sub miniature DZ switches offers a Positive Break Action feature. This mechanism operates when the contacts are welded or clotted and the operating force is insufficient to open the contact. In addition, parts consist of cadmium-free contact material in accordance with RoHS directives.

DZ.jpg

The DZ range operates at temperatures between -20 and 85degC, with a contact resistance of less that 100mΩ between 100mA and 10VDC. The device switches high inductive loads 3 (3)A 250 V at 50,000 cycles and complies to standard EN 60335-1 for resistance against heat and fire.

DZ switches are especially designed for motor drives (sun blinds; adjustable beds, armchairs and office desks; automatic doors and gates…). Devices are also applicable as limit switches for industrial automation, and as auxiliary switches for medium-voltage systems.

Honeywell Introduces ASDX & ASDX-DO Series, Upgraded Low-Pressure Plaxtic Silicon Pressure sensors, That Improve Performance And May Help Reduce Manufacturing Costs

August 26, 2009

Logo.jpg

Pressure Ranges from 1 to 5 psi, On-Board Signal Conditioning, Custom Calibration,
and Digital Output Options Provide Support for Many Unique Applications

Honeywell has expanded its industry-leading ASDX plastic silicon pressure sensor family with the new ASDX Series and ASDX-DO Series, which offer pressure ranges from 1 psi to 5 psi and on-board signal conditioning.

The on-board signal conditioning allows the customer to remove those components from their PC board to free space, may reduce their acquisition, inventory, and assembly costs, and minimize potential problems from having multiple signal conditioning
components spread across a circuit board.

ASDX.jpg

These low-pressure sensors are intended for use with non-corrosive, non-ionic working fluids, such as air and dry gases. Potential industrial and medical applications include barometry, flow calibrators, gas-flow instrumentation, sleep apnea/therapy equipment, pneumatic controls, and ventilation/airflow monitors.

The ASDX and ASDX-DO Series pressure sensors are fully calibrated and temperature compensated for sensor offset, sensitivity, temperature effects, and non-linearity using an on-board Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC). Calibrated output values for pressure are updated at approximately 1 kHz.

The ASDX Series with compensated analog output provides a ratiometric 12 bit analog output for reading pressure over the specified full scale pressure span and temperature range, typically allowing for fast and easy integration into standard electronic circuits. The ASDXDO Series with compensated 14 bit digital output provides either an I2C or SPI digital interface for reading pressure over the specified full scale pressure span and temperature range, minimizing connections, providing higher resolution, and faster performance through reduced conversion requirements and the convenience of direct interface to the microprocessors or microcontrollers.

Schaffner Type FN2450 Low-Leakage EMC/EMI Filters with Ergonomic Design

August 19, 2009

Schaffner 225_31.jpg

Schaffner, the international leader in combining electromagnetic compatibility and power quality, launches the new compact single-phase EMC/EMI filter FN 2450. The low-leakage filter FN 2450 expands the Schaffner product offering of suppression components in plastic housings, which optimally combine innovative lightweight designs with a high level of functionality, safety and ergonomics.

FN2450.jpg

The innovative use of plastic materials and the elimination of potting compound allow a significant weight reduction, in comparison to conventional EMC/EMI component designs. The EMC-compatible HF contact to ground is ensured by a metal base plate.

Integrated terminals in the housing enable reliable contact from the top with the automatic torque wrench. Built-in safety covers, which for the purpose of installation can be easily folded forwards and backwards using a captive swivel mechanism, are provided as standard for protection against unintended contact with live clamping elements.

The low-leakage EMC/EMI filters FN 2450 are designed for rated currents from 6 to 20A (at 55°C) and for single-phase networks ≤250VAC. All versions are distinguished by minimal filter leakage current and are particularly suited for use with sensitive residual current protective devices, as well as for strict requirements with regard to operator and fire protection. The compact filters are UL, CSA and ENEC approved and comply with the requirements of the RoHS directive.

Honeywell Introduces Series 1080HD Customizable, Configurable Handlebar Controls

August 12, 2009

Logo.jpg

Patent-pending, compact, high-functional density
design meets off-road vehicle requirements

Honeywell has introduced a new line of handlebar controls to meet off-road vehicle manufacturers’ desire for controls that are easily customized, incur low upfront tooling costs, enhance safety, and increase design flexibility.

Honeywell Sensing and Control’s new 1080HD Series Handlebar Controls provide off-the-shelf, SAE spec-qualified handlebar controls that provide a greater number of functions per package volume and are easily configured in different ways. With little up-front investment for the OEM, Honeywell’s platform approach creates a customized right or left-hand control in a cost-efficient, qualified handlebar control to support short OEM product design cycles.

Handlebar Controls.jpg

The 1080HD Series offers enhanced safety through an optional runaway prevention switch, and through a smaller form factor that enables easier user access to critical vehicle functions.

To meet additional requirements for design flexibility and aesthetic differentiation, Honeywell developed three patent-pending designs that can be applied to the new handlebar controls. Common components and inserted tooling reduce
tooling investment and minimize procurement complexity while also improving manufacturability. The product’s smaller size and easy configurability increases OEM design flexibility in both functions and in attachment and accessory options. Standard
circuitry and components shorten OEM product development times, and the unique design specification meets most North American off-road and European on-road requirements.

These customized controls may be designed for use on appropriate vehicles with handlebars, including ATVs, snowmobiles, electric vehicles, Segway® mobile platforms, motorcycles, or standing, handle bar-maneuvered machines (i.e. industrial
sweepers, grocery/luggage cart collectors, etc.)

Schurter Introduces the New Metal MSM CS Metal Switch with Ceramic Surface

August 11, 2009

Schurter Logo1.jpg

Metal Switches with High Resistance to Destructive
Elements, Fully Illuminated Actuating Surface

The new MSM CS metal switch from SCHURTER is equipped with an actuator made of highly durable ceramic. Ceramic is a new technology employed in the production of an electro-mechanical switch.  The new switch provides novel features that open up entirely new areas of application. The actuator material of the MSM CS is resistant to scratches, abrasion, impact and chemicals.

MSM CS.jpg

The non-illuminated version has a translucent white actuating surface. Lettering is black and is applied directly onto the ceramic material. Due to the base material and the lettering process, the lettering is resistant to scratches and to common cleaning agents. In the case of switches designed with illumination, the actuator surface fully illuminates uniformly across the entire surface. Lettering and symbols can also be applied. The standard black lettering provides a positive effect against the illuminated actuator, while negative lettering provides an inverse effect.

The MSM CS is extremely robust and meets vandal-proof demands due to the low profile of the front structure (1.7 mm), the IP 69K protection class and the high level of impact resistance. The switch is available in 19 mm and 22 mm mounting diameters. Different contact configurations are offered over a range of 30 VDC to 250 VAC for the admissible switching voltage; switching currents are permissible from 0.1 to 10 Amperes. The MSM CS is equipped with quick connect terminals to allow for fast connections. The wires are connected to the switching element which is subsequently snapped onto the switch housing.
